Welcome to Amy Childers Counseling

I am confident that you and I together can help identify, explore, and discuss a path to bring you healing. May we journey together to address individual and/or family concerns that may be causing you emotional and mental distress. -Amy Childers

I offer individual, couples and family counseling for children through adults. For therapy with children, I offer play, art and music therapy techniques. Parental interaction at times may be helpful. For therapy with individuals, various techniques can be used dependent upon the person’s belief system, comfort level and presenting problems. Couples counseling is offered for all types of relationships and may include communication-skills building, conflict resolution, living with differences, healing past hurts, and strengthening of marital/partnership bond. Family therapy is provided for those seeking to improve home life and reduce conflict. This type of therapy can support both the individual family member as well as the group, as the family transitions through various milestones of family development.

About Therapy

During the therapy session, you are offered the opportunity to openly work on issues in an empathetic, confidential and respectful setting. You may want to explore unresolved pain, uncomfortable feelings and thoughts, or trauma in a safe and therapeutic atmosphere. You may want to learn healthy coping skills, seek parenting techniques, apply effective communication skills, address addictions or stop an unhealthy cycle that keeps getting in the way of your happiness. Therapy may help you gain positive self-esteem, reach personal goals, improve self awareness and better identify your values, which in turn may create balance and comfort in your life.

As with any treatment, there are some risks in the therapeutic process. For example, you may at times, have uncomfortable emotions or negative feelings. You may be asked to think or act in ways that are not natural for you. Ultimately, meeting and overcoming risks may build self confidence, reduce anxiety and strengthen a person's ability to manage future life challenges. Similar to what the philosopher Socrates states, “An unexamined life is not worth living,” therapy helps to examine our individual world and how we fit into it.

Service Fees

Individual sessions are based on a 50 minute clinical hour. Fees are collected at the time of service. Payments are accepted by check, cash, HSA cards, VISA, MasterCard or Discover. Fees are at what is considered reasonable and customary at $100/hour for cash-paying clients.

I accept several insurances as well as cash-paying clients, for those who desire to not use insurance. For those insurance companies indicated as out of network or non-participating, I will file an insurance claim for you as a courtesy. This may enable you to receive reimbursement based on the specifications of your insurance policy. You need to contact your insurance company in advance to verify if you need a referral for services, get an authorization number and check your benefits including deductibles, co-pay and number of visits available. There are several types of insurance plans, each with different requirements for paying claims. It should be noted that authorization is not a guarantee of payment and you are ultimately responsible for all charges.

If you are unable to make your scheduled appointment, please contact the office 24 hours in advance. Messages may be left on the office machine at any time of day or night; weekday or weekend. Missed appointments that are not emergency-related will be assessed a $50 fee to the account. Please be aware that insurance companies will not reimburse for missed appointments.
