EMDR • Sensorimotor Psychotherapy • Reiki

What is EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a leading type of therapy to help people with a variety of trauma-related issues such as grief, abuse, rape, combat, anxiety, and depression which often presents as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or PTSD tendencies. Furthermore, EMDR is recognized as effective in assisting high stress trauma related professionals such as a members of the military, police officers and firefighters. EMDR, through bilateral eye movements or hand held device called “tappers”, decreases the negative effect of emotions and imagery stored in the mind and body. EMDR consists of 8 phases of treatment with the goal being to process completely the experiences that are causing problems. Every client has different needs and may proceed through the stages at various speeds. EMDR therapy focuses on past memories that are contributing to present disturbing situations where a client may feel stuck or even traumatized. EMDR also helps clients determine positive thoughts and skills needed for the future as well as reinforce through visual imagery, calm safe states of mind, body and energy.

What is SP?
Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP) is a method that draws upon the natural wisdom of the body to include posture, movement, breath and the nervous system to tap into the innate drive in all of us to heal, adapt, and develop new capacities. The effects of trauma, loss, grief, anxiety, depression, abuse or painful childhood memories are held in our nervous systems, posture, and movement habits as well as in unresolved painful emotions and limiting beliefs. To change these patterns, clients learn to mindfully follow the natural intelligent process of body and mind. Paying attention to both body and mind can accelerate healing and lead to more lasting change.

What is Reiki?
Reiki (prounced “ray-kee”) is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. Reiki is based on the idea that unseen life force energy flows through us. If one’s life force energy is low, then he/she is more likely to feel stressed. Reiki treats the whole person including mind, body and emotions. It is a self-improvement method that along with other modalities such as meditation, Qi Gong or visual imagery, may create feelings of peace, relaxation and lower overall stress, depression and anxiety levels.
